A recent remodel: from unworn pieces to a future heirloom
Recently, I worked with Sophie who sent in a small collection of inherited gold: a few delicate chains, a range of studs and a shoe-shaped pendant. Individually, none of the pieces were being worn, but together they held enormous sentimental value. In our discussions, Sophie told me that they belonged to at least 4 members of her family who had sadly passed over the years.
After assessing the gold, I carefully tested the material to understand the carat and weight, which meant I was able to give some of a higher carat back for another project later down the line! I used what we had chosen, making sure there was at least a piece linked to everyone, and created our largest ATHENA pendant yet. The finished piece now holds the memory of multiple loved ones, combined into something that can be worn every day. What was once tucked away in a jewellery box has become a new heirloom in its own right. It weighs over twice the amount as our standard ATHENAs, is hallmarked in the UK and even has a unique squiggle on the back which we kept as we agreed it added to its charm!
